Next hearing on the appeal of diamond trader Nirav Modi for the extradition case will be held in the London High Court on June 28, according to the officials of the Royal Courts of Justice.

Despite the date, he filed an appeal against the deportation on grounds of mental health. The 51-year-old fugitive is accused of fraud and money  amounting to an estimated $2 billion in the PNB bank scam.

His lawyer, Edward Fitzgerald, has been arguing that Nirav Modi is suffering from severe depression. Refusing the decision to go to Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, the lawyer says that he will not get adequate medical care.

The lawyer also mentioned that the condition has only worsened after Nirav’s imprisonment in South London’s Wandsworth Prison in March 2019.
