Sheetal Ohri, a well-known radio personality and businessperson, has fictionalized her decadelong struggle to gain legal custody of her son in the book “Custodial Battle: Chronicles of an Immigrant Mother Who Was Delayed Justice in Family Law Due to Immigration Status.”

Ohri’s personal story mirrors that of her protagonist Ritika, a young Indian woman who marries U.S. citizen Sumit, becomes pregnant in short order, and is abandoned in India during a family vacation, as Sumit and son Rohan return to the U.S.
