The United States remains the top study destination for higher education amongst international students. Despite the overall decrease of 15% from the previous year, the US received over 914,000 international students from over 200 different countries, according to the 2021 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange that was released on Monday. Indians students make close to 20% of this number.

In the past academic year, 167,582 students from India went to the US for pursuing their higher education – an almost 13% decrease from 2019-2020. According to a statement by the U.S. embassy, “the U.S. government and U.S. higher-education institutions had implemented measures to safely welcome international students in person, online, and via hybrid learning methods, guaranteeing that opportunities and resources to international students remained robust during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
