NYPD's Hate Crimes Unit probes attack on Sikh taxi driver

The assailant can be heard yelling at the driver, but it's unclear whether he or the driver said anything. The Sikh driver, who appeared to be in his late forties with a greying beard, stood firm and did not retaliate.

Following a request from the Indian Consulate, the New York Police Department's (NYPD) Hate Crimes Unit has joined the investigation into the attack on a Sikh cabdriver at the city's main airport.

Last week, a video filmed by a witness went viral on social media, showing a man dressed in black assaulting a taxi driver, retreating to his blue car, and then returning to hit the driver again, knocking his turban off. The victim's and attacker's names and the date and time of the attack are unknown.
