Payal Kapadia: Golden Eye for the Mumbaikar

Payal Kapadia, a Mumbai-based filmmaker, has won the coveted/honourable Oeil d'Or (Golden Eye) prize under Best Documentary category for her film "A Night of Knowing Nothing" at the Cannes Film Festival, 2021.

The film was chosen among 28 documentaries submitted from around the world as the winner, and it was declared so by the five-member jury of the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, presided over by Ezra Edelman, the American documentary producer. Franco-American film critic Iris Brey, French actor Deborah Francois, Orwa Nyrabia, artistic director of the International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) Amsterdam, and French filmmaker Julie Bertuccelli were also part of the jury.
