Police charge Amazon India in alleged marijuana smuggling

The police in Madhya Pradesh (MP) arrested two men with 20 kg (44 pounds) of marijuana last week and said they were using the Amazon India website (Amazon.in) to smuggle the substance in the guise of stevia leaves (a natural sweetener) to other states of India.

State police said in a statement that executive directors of Amazon India were being named as accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in connection with the alleged use of the e-commerce marketplace for smuggling marijuana in the South Asian market. However, it has not been disclosed as to how many senior executives had been charged.
