President Biden picks Dr. Arati Prabhakar as top science advisor

Arati Prabhakar was the first woman to lead the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and also worked as the director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

US president Joe Biden recently announced his intent to nominate Indian-American engineer Dr. Arati Prabhakar as the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).

If confirmed by the senate, Prabhakar will also serve as the President’s Chief Advisor for Science and Technology, a co-chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, and a member of the President’s Cabinet. She will be making history as the first woman and person of colour to lead the OSTP.
