President Ram Nath Kovind in his address at the India International Centre's (IIC) Diamond Jubilee celebrations said that, India has a long tradition of 'vaad-vivaad' (debate) and 'samvaad' (dialogue) and that there is a need to reconnect with that heritage.

The President mentioned that when the idea of the IIC as an international platform for the exchange of ideas was established in 1958, the world was dealing with concerns of a fair and stable international order as well as the legacy responsibilities of two world wars.
