Reminiscing over the hope of the Desi queer diaspora

The South Asian Lesbian & Gay Association of New York City (SALGA) is a 25+ year old completely volunteered non-profit organization, located in New York, that strives to make the South Asian queer community feel represented, empowered, aware and accepted.

Founded in 1989 by twelve South Asians, it was originally named the South Asian Gay Association. In 1991, the South Asian Gay Association (SAGA) was renamed the South Asian Lesbian and Gay Association (SALGA) due to many female members joining in.
