The Lakshman Jhula is an iron bridge that hangs over the Holy River Ganges in Rishikesh, Uttrakhand. According to Hindu Mythology, Lord Ram’s brother Lakshman is said to have crossed the river on a jute rope, that is why the bridge is named in his honor.
The 450 feet long bridge offers a majestic view of the Rishikesh City and the holy river Ganges. It gained popularity after iconic Rock band The Beatles’ members John Lennon and George Harrison walked the wire bridge to reach the spiritual camp of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh which is known for spiritual discourses (satsang), Yoga and meditation.
