Sri Lankan navy arrests 55 Indian fishermen

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure the speedy release of detained fishermen and the boats

The Sri Lankan Navy arrested 55 Indian fishermen in the Ramanathapuram district. In addition, it impounded eight Indian fishing trawler boats on poaching accusations on Dec. 18 and 19, while they were fishing in the island nation's territorial waters.

On Saturday, the first incidence occurred at Neduntheevu (Delft Island), when 43 men from Rameswaram were apprehended on six boats, while 12 others from Thangachimadam were arrested on two boats on Sunday.
