The Delta Plus Variant: What do we know?

The new Delta plus variant (previously referred to by the misnomer ‘the Nepal Variant') of the corona virus has been found in 22 cases in Kerala, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

The Delta plus variant has been labeled a 'variant of concern' by the Central Government, which issued a warning to the states yesterday evening.

It stated that, “The Chief Secretaries of the states have been advised to take up immediate containment measures in these districts and clusters, as identified by INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Consortia – a consortium of four city clusters of Hyderabad, Pune, New Delhi and Bangalore), including preventing crowds and intermingling of people, widespread testing, prompt tracing as well as vaccine coverage on priority basis.”
