The Philippines has accepted the US$374.96 million contract to purchase shore-based anti-ship missiles from India for the country's Navy.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or from land platforms with pinpoint accuracy regardless of the time or the weather conditions. They were developed as a joint venture between India and Russia — the BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd, a multinational aerospace and defense company. These 290-km range missiles are one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world with the ability to travel at Mach 2.8 (three times faster than the speed of sound).
