On Day 3 of the event, India played its first-ever fencing match in Olympics. The country's lone representative at fencing, C A Bhavani Devi made a winning start to her historic Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 on July 26.

Bhavani Devi won her first match against Tunisia’s Nadia Ben Azizi 15-3 and advanced to the round of 32.

Later in the day, Bhavani bowed out of the second round against World No. 3 Manon Brunet 7-15 of France in Women's Individual Sabre at Makuhari Messe Hall B Yellow Piste.
