Tokyo Paralympics: Medals rain over the Indian contingent

Indians have created history by securing seven medals (1 Gold, 4 Silver, 2 bronze) so far at the Tokyo Paralympics. A team of 54 para-athletes from India feature in The Games making it India's biggest ever contingent to take part in the Paralympic Games.

At 19 years of age, shooter Avani Lekhara became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics. She scripted her historic win by setting a world record of 249.6, which is also a new Paralympic record in the R-2 women’s 10 m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event. In this event shooters are able to hold a gun with arms. The athletes have an impairment in their legs and so compete in a sitting position.
