On Wednesday, two returnees from the United Kingdom (UK) tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Department has sent their samples to the Government Medical College's genome sequencing lab to test for the new Omicron variant. Both patients who tested positive were already admitted to the Mata Kaushalya Government Hospital.

According to the Health Department, both patients — mother (39) and daughter (12) — were asymptomatic. On Dec. 14, four members of the family, all of whom live in the United Kingdom, returned to Dhablan village in the district.
