U. S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, along with his wife Alice, and their two children, have all been infected with COVID-19 and each are experiencing varying degrees of symptoms.

Murthy’s daughter, who is four and thus not yet eligible to be vaccinated, started showing signs of infection on Feb. 13. “Staring at my daughter’s positive test, I asked myself the same questions many parents have asked: ‘Will my child be ok? Could I have done more to protect her? Was this my fault?’ In these moments, it doesn’t matter if you’re a doctor or Surgeon General. We are parents first,” Murthy tweeted Feb. 15.
