Nupur Sharma, the national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), made a controversial remark on Prophet Muhammad during a televised debate on the Gyanvapi mosque controversy. The spokesperson on Twitter wrote that she had been upset with the continuous “insult and disrespect” of lord Shiva.

Nupur Sharma’s remarks on the Prophet had created outrage that lead to several protests in the country. FIR’s were also filed against Nupur Sharma. Furthermore, over 40 people and police officers were injured in a violence that took place in Kanpur over the remark.
