UK art gallery displays work of Coventry’s first Indian photographer

As the first Indian photographer of 1950 Coventry, Masterji is credited for documenting the images surrounding the lives of early Indian and South Asian immigrants who settled in the UK.

An ongoing exhibition at Compton Verney Art Gallery in Warwickshire, United Kingdom has the works of late Indian origin photographer, Maganbhai Patel, popularly known as ‘Masterji’, on display till May 22, 2022.

Curated by his daughter, Tarla Patel, the exhibition titled ‘Through the lens of Masterji’, presents a broad collection of photographs taken by Masterji throughout his 50-year career and also glimpses of his personal life. Transcripts of the interviews of some of his friends and clients are also available for the attendees.
