French woman sues India for wrongful detention of more than a year

The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detentions has supported a 62-year-old French citizen's demand for compensation from India for wrongfully holding her for more than a year during a trip to Buddhist sites in the country.

According to the international human rights body, India responded to the charge of violating international human rights legislation and other rights established in the 2015 basic standards of treatment of prisoners, often known as the Mandela Rules, on Feb. 16.
