US President Joe Biden is planning to appoint Arati Prabhakar, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy(OSTP) as his scientific advisor. The Indian-origin Physicist is anticipated to be announced for the post this coming week.

The 63-year-old will succeed Eric Lander, who resigned on February 7 after being accused of abusing his employees and creating a hostile work environment. Prabhakar will require Senate confirmation to become the Director of OSTP, which is a procedure that can take months. As the scientific advisor, her responsibilities include resolving difficult science policy challenges and to best equip the US to compete with China.
