Mirabai Chanu won Gold for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmingham on Saturday in the Women's 49kg final. Soon after that, weightlifter Chanu's family and neighbours in her hometown of Nongpok Kakching in Manipur joined together to celebrate the remarkable triumph.

Mirabai displayed incredible strength in the Clean and Jerk lift category, lifting 109 kilograms on her first try. She lifted 113 kilograms on her second try. She failed to lift 115 kilograms in her final attempt at this category, but she succeeded in winning India's first gold medal at the event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate weightlifter Mirabai Chanu on winning Gold at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
