On Thursday, hours before Miss World 2021 inauguration, the event organizers announced the postponement after the contestants tested positive for Covid. As a result, the contestants are subjected to isolation in Puerto Rico.
In total, seventeen contestants and staff members were tested positive. Manasa Varanasi, who will represent India in the contest, has also been tested positive. The Miss Indian Organization wrote on its Instagram, "We were in great disbelief that she (Manasa Varanasi) might not be able to grace the world stage inspire of her immense hard work and dedication, however her safety is of utmost importance to us."
