USCIRF concerned over communal violence in Bangladesh

This reaction of the USCIRF comes after several cases of violent attacks on Hindu temples and houses were reported from across the country over the last week.

USCIRF concerned over communal violence in Bangladesh

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) on Wednesday has expressed its concern over the ongoing communal violence in Bangladesh, stressing that it was ‘troubled’ over the attacks on the minority Hindu communities in the country.

USCIRF Chair Nadine Maenza said “USCIRF is gravely troubled about the recent wave of violence against Hindus that has erupted in Bangladesh. We applaud Prime Minister Shiekh Hassina’s response to the heinous crimes by sending paramilitary forces to contain violence… we continue to urge the Bangladeshi government to crackdown on extremist elements that fan anti-Hindu sentiments in the country”.
