The United States-India Relationship Council (USIRC) strongly opposed a resolution authored by Minnesota Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, that condemns India for violating religious freedom and human rights.

USIRC called the charges against India “baseless” and stressed that India upholds the idea of democracy in an official statement. The organisation has also asked Representatives James McGovern (D-MA), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Juan Vargas (D-CA), Ayanna Pressley (D MA), and Jamie Raskin (D-MD) to stop backing the resolution.
