Originally from India, Kuriyan was a transfer student from Madras University to Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

Vanderbilt University, a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee has appointed Indian origin John Kuriyan, one of the world’s leading structural biologists, as its next dean of the School of Medicine Basic Sciences.

Kuriyan will be responsible for furthering the university’s global research impact by conducting fundamental investigations in molecular, cellular and developmental biology and making advances in drug discovery, pharmacology and genetic engineering, when he takes office on Jan. 1, 2023.
