Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand, has decided to skip the forthcoming Chess Olympiad and stay at home. He made the decision to allow younger players to participate in the tournament. Anand, however, will still be an integral component of the 20-person contingent as a mentor for both squads (open and women).

This has boosted the prospects of the home team winning a medal during the 14-day tournament, which is scheduled to attract top athletes from more than 150 countries.
