This Saraswati Puja had a unique twist in New Zealand. Pujas are traditionally performed by male Brahmin. However, this time the puja in Tauranga, on the other hand, was led by two women: Pradipta Mukherjee and her friend Debjani Mukherjee.

Women in India traditionally perform puja at home. But Pradipta saw no reason why the same could not be extended to the community as well. A woman can perform a puja just as well as a male, as long as she learns and follows the puja requirements. Hence, she embarked on this new adventure with this notion in mind.
