After the successful bid for Indian Premier League’s broadcasting rights sold for a record breaking sum of US$ 6 billion last week, the cricketing league became the world’s second-richest sports league, behind the all-conquering NFL.

With the league growing to great heights in its 15 years, the demand for a women’s edition of IPL has also been gaining momentum. Recognising the demand, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the Women’s edition Indian Premier League (WIPL) will start from 2023.
