Every year on Feb. 2, World Wetlands Day is commemorated to raise global awareness about the importance of wetlands, not only for humans but also for the planet Earth. The day also marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on Feb. 2, 1971.

Following its adoption by the UN General Assembly on Aug. 30, 2021, World Wetlands Day will be marked as a United Nations international day for the first time this year.
