Tokyo Olympian Anshu Malik made history on Wednesday when she became the first woman wrestler from India to reach the finals at the senior world wrestling championships in Oslo, Norway.  She outclassed the junior European champion Solomiia Vynnyk at the semi-final in the 57Kg category, ensuring that she will receive at least a silver medal in the competition.

This came as welcome news after Sarita Mor lost her semifinals to the former world championships silver-medallist - Bilyana Dudovaand of Bulgaria.  Mor will later compete for a chance to win the bronze medal. Only four women wrestlers - Geeta Phogat (2012), Babita Phogat (2012), Pooja Dhanda (2018) and Vinesh Phogat (2019) have previously won medals at the world championships, but they have all been bronze.
