For the first time, Asian Americans will serve as mayors in the cities of Boston and Cincinnati, indicating political progress for a population that has struggled with anti-Asian hate for nearly two years.

On Tuesday, Boston voters elected Michelle Wu, 36, to serve as the city's top political official. Aftab Pureval, 39, comfortably defeated former Congressman and a fellow Democrat David Mann in Cincinnati.
